Madeline + Keith | Historic Bethlehem Engagement Session

Today, I should be in New York photographing Madeline & Keith’s marriage and wedding celebration.

Instead, I am quarantined at home, cutting my husband’s hair for the first time. This simple act encompasses so many emotions and emphasizes the way that the world is changing. Today, I seek joy in this gesture of love towards my husband.

I often talk to my couples about the fundamental difference that marriage makes within a relationship. There is a before and there is an after. The after is different, richer perhaps and steeped in the commitment to the bad times as well as the good.

And therein lies the duality. There are moments of joy within the darkness.

Only days ago, I drove my husband through Bethlehem to see the cherry blossoms. Springtime symbolizes many things. The cherry blossom in particular symbolizes the fleeting nature of life. Each drifting blossom is a poignant reminder of the times.

During our drive, I spoke of Madeline & Keith. This time last year, we adventured together through the cherry blossoms. And at that time the blossoms symbolized renewal and the promise of new life. Perhaps they still do.

Although Madeline & Keith are my first couple affected by the pandemic, they won’t be my last. My heart breaks for everyone being negatively impacted during these strange times. “Madeline & Keith, I can’t wait to document and celebrate with you soon.”

For now, please enjoy this beautiful engagement session.

Wishing you love, health and safety as we all navigate this new world.
